In an environment shaped by tariff uncertainties, persistent inflation, and geopolitical threats, investors face a broad spectrum of risks. As a result, the focus is increasingly shifting toward downside protection strategies that aim to reduce drawdowns without fully sacrificing upside potential. “In essence, investors must continue allocating to risk assets to achieve their return objectives, but also need to have strategies in place to manage volatility, as drawdowns (declines in investment value) can take a long time to recover from and can therefore undermine long-term outcomes,” says Altaf Kassam, Europe Head of Investment Strategy & Research at SSGA.
