Sustainable investing: Why are Green bonds important – especially now?

David Zahn, Head of European Fixed Income, Franklin Templeton

Past year was challenging for the whole fixed income universe, and green, social and sustainability bonds were no exception. Especially, the long-duration nature of the asset class resulted in underperformance in 2022. We might be close to reaching peak policy rates in Europe, making this an attractive moment to start adding longer-duration securities such as sustainable bonds to investor portfolios.
