Demographic trends are poised to become a defining force in shaping future global economic growth and investment outcomes. Amundi identified three trends that will shape the macro-financial landscape over the coming decades.
1) Shrinking populations in most developed and several emerging markets
2) Significant decline in the working age population
3) Few emerging markets with a positive demographic dividend
“Emerging markets will continue to enjoy better demographic dynamics,” says Alessia Berardi, Head of Emerging Macro Strategy, Amundi Investment Institute. “However, they will face a challenge to employ a younger population while artificial intelligence is transforming the labour market.”
Amundi expects these demographic changes to influence workforce size, long-term economic growth, consumer behaviour, and both saving and investment trends.
